Specific motors

At Hydro Leduc, hydraulic motors are designed as precision hydraulic components, intended to operate reliably under demanding conditions of pressure, load and operating time. Each motor is developed to meet specific application constraints, whether related to speed, torque or operating consistency. As a hydraulic motor manufacturer, Hydro Leduc places strong emphasis on adjustment capabilities — the selection of displacement, control of flow rate and adaptation to real operating cycles allow the motor’s behaviour to be optimised within its actual working environment.

HOW DOES A HYDRAULIC MOTOR WORK?

A hydraulic motor converts hydraulic energy (pressure × flow rate) into mechanical energy (torque × rotational speed). In an axial piston motor, hydraulic pressure acts on pistons arranged around a central shaft, pushing them against an inclined swash plate and generating rotation. Output torque is directly proportional to supply pressure; rotational speed is proportional to flow rate. This predictable relationship allows precise motor sizing for any application.

FIXED OR VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT HYDRAULIC MOTOR?

Fixed displacement hydraulic motor

A fixed displacement motor delivers constant torque and speed for a given pressure and flow. Simple, robust and cost-effective, it is ideal for constant-load drives: conveyors, process pumps, agricultural implements and handling equipment.

Variable displacement hydraulic motor

A variable displacement motor allows continuous adjustment of the torque/speed ratio without changing pump flow. It is perfectly suited to two-speed applications requiring high speed under light load and low speed under high torque — cranes, winches, wheel drives and harvesting machinery.

HYDRO LEDUC HYDRAULIC MOTOR SERIES

Fixed displacement motors — M, MA, MXP, MSI series

Our fixed displacement motors are available in ISO/SAE standard (M series), compact high-performance (MXP/MXA series) and semi-integrated (MSI series) configurations. They cover displacements from a few cm³ to several hundred cm³, for pressures up to 420 bar.

Variable displacement motors — MV, MVA, MVSI series

Hydro Leduc variable displacement motors enable continuous adjustment of the torque/speed ratio. The MV (ISO), MVA (compact) and MVSI (semi-integrated variable) series cover mobile and industrial applications requiring two operating regimes.

Mini hydraulic motors

For applications where space and weight are critical, Hydro Leduc offers compact and miniature hydraulic motor solutions. Our micro-hydraulic range delivers high torque density in minimal envelopes — suited to embedded systems, UAVs and precision industrial drives.

HYDRAULIC MOTOR APPLICATIONS

Construction and earthmoving machinery

Hydraulic motors drive excavator slewing rings, crane winches, bulldozer tracks and compactor drums. The ability to deliver high torque at low speed — a defining characteristic of piston motors — is critical for these applications.

Agricultural machinery

Fixed and variable displacement motors drive the working elements of combine harvesters, forage harvesters, spreaders and irrigation pumps — with the ruggedness required for continuous field operation under dust, vibration and temperature variation.

Industrial automation and material handling

In hydraulic presses, industrial mixers and centrifuges, hydraulic motors offer higher power density than electric motors in difficult environments (humidity, dust, vibration, ATEX zones). Their precision and stability make them well-suited to demanding production cycles.

Aerospace and defence

Hydro Leduc hydraulic motors power flight control servoactuators, weapon systems and on-board auxiliary equipment where power density and reliability are absolutely critical. Full traceability and aerospace certifications are available.

Marine and offshore applications

Deck cranes, anchor windlasses and steering systems on vessels require motors with corrosion resistance for saltwater environments. Hydro Leduc develops special marine versions with appropriate surface treatments and classification society approvals on request.

FAQ — HYDRAULIC MOTORS

What is the difference between a fixed and variable displacement hydraulic motor?

A fixed displacement motor has a constant geometric volume: for a given flow rate, it always runs at the same speed. A variable displacement motor allows this volume to be adjusted, enabling independent control of speed and torque — essential for two-speed applications such as crane drives, wheel motors and harvesting machinery.

What is a mini hydraulic motor and when should I use one?

A mini hydraulic motor is a compact or miniature hydraulic motor designed for applications where space and weight are critical constraints. Hydro Leduc offers miniature motor solutions within its micro-hydraulic range, delivering high torque density in minimal envelopes for embedded systems, robotics and UAV hydraulics.

What are the maximum operating pressures for Hydro Leduc hydraulic motors?

Hydro Leduc hydraulic motors operate at continuous nominal pressures up to 420 bar. This high-pressure capability in compact housings is a defining advantage of our axial piston motor technology.

How do I select the right hydraulic motor for my application?

Motor selection is based on four key parameters: (1) required output torque, (2) desired rotational speed, (3) available supply pressure, and (4) circuit flow rate. Our engineering team provides full sizing support — contact us with your application requirements.

Can Hydro Leduc design a custom hydraulic motor?

Yes. Our engineering team develops special motors for non-standard geometries, extreme pressures, special fluids and aerospace or defence certifications — from specification through to series production.
